This is a 4-week, full-time course for those wishing to gain basic entry level skills to gain employment in the Thoroughbred Industry

Course Programme

Over the duration of 4 – weeks, students will learn key skills required for entry level to a career in the Thoroughbred Industry along with gaining QQI Level 4 accredited certificates:

• QQI Level 4 Stable & Yard Routine
• KWETB Sustainability Module
• DAFM Certificate of Competence (for transporting Equines – Ages 18 yrs + requirement)
• Manual Handling & Basic First Aid Certificates
• Yard visits & Guest Speakers

Possible progression for suitable / eligible candidates to the Thoroughbred Industry Traineeship

Who Can Apply

• You must be able to communicate effectively in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
• Have an interest in working with horses as a career and a reasonable level of physical fitness
• No previous equine experience required.

• Training is delivered by RACE in collaboration with Equuip

Health Criteria

Working in the Thoroughbred Industry involves a high level of physical activity and therefore candidates should be fit and leading active lives. If you have a diagnosed medical condition you MUST inform RACE ahead of assessment for this course.  You will be required to complete standard medical questionnaire.
